Young Yashasvi Jaiswal made a triumphant return to T20I cricket for India, smashing a brilliant 93 against Zimbabwe in the fourth match of the series. This exceptional innings led to a commanding 10-wicket victory for India. Recently part of the victorious T20I World Cup squad in the West Indies, Jaiswal had joined the team in Zimbabwe. While he had made a decent start in the third T20I with a score of 36, his performance in the fourth match was truly outstanding. With India cruising towards a comfortable win without losing a wicket, Jaiswal was well on his way to a maiden T20I century before captain Shubman Gill accelerated the innings to clinch the match. Despite the disappointment of missing out on a century, Jaiswal remained unfazed. He clarified that his sole focus, in conversation with the captain, was to expedite the chase and secure a 10-wicket win for the team.
Yashasvi Jaiswal on missing out on ton in Zimbabwe series
"I really enjoyed playing today. It was an amazing experience with Shubman. Of course, whenever I play for India, I feel proud. We were thinking about how to finish the game and make sure to win it for the team. The only thought running through our mind was to get the game over with and win by no wickets lost," Jaiswal answered questions from the Harare crowd.
Yashasvi Jaiswal's return to the Indian T20I squad came after a four-month hiatus. He had previously impressed with a stellar performance in the Test series against England, accumulating over 700 runs. Despite his exceptional Test form, Jaiswal's IPL 2024 season with the Rajasthan Royals was unexpectedly underwhelming. Nevertheless, he earned a spot in India's T20 World Cup squad. However, barring a warm-up match against Bangladesh, Jaiswal remained on the sidelines throughout the tournament as Virat Kohli partnered with Rohit Sharma at the top of the order. While it was undoubtedly disappointing for Jaiswal, he prioritized India's World Cup triumph over personal ambitions.
"I just enjoyed my process and being part of the champion Indian team. I learnt a lot, and I was really excited that whenever I got a chance, I would try my best. Make sure that I am contributing and winning the game for my team," Jaiswal stated.
Despite a break from domestic cricket, similar to some of his Indian teammates, Jaiswal emphasized the significance of returning to the fundamentals of the game. His First-Class record is impressive, boasting 2873 runs, including 12 centuries and six half-centuries, from just 28 matches.
"Playing domestic helps a lot. There are a lot of advantages. You can prepare and get ready for the matches. Domestic games are really important for us. We really enjoy playing it," Jaiswal concluded.
