After being signed for a whopping sum of Rs 8.4 crore by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), young batter Sameer Rizvi entered the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a ton of expectations on his shoulders. While he didn't get a chance to showcase his repertoire of strokes in the franchise's opening match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the right-handed batter put on a brief show when he got the chance to bat against the Gujarat Titans.

An emphatic debut for Sameer Rizvi

Rizvi came into bat with probably the best bowler in the shortest format of the game, Rashid Khan in the attack. Rizvi paid no heed to reputation and whacked his first delivery for a maximum. Later in the over, the right-handed batter smashed another six before his 14-run knock off six balls put to an end by Mohit Sharma.

"Dhoni bhai told me just one thing. How you have been playing till now, that's the game. You just need to play like that. There's nothing different. The skill is the same and the mindset maybe a little different. So whenever you're playing, don't feel the pressure," said Rizvi in a video posted by the IPL.

"Just play according to the situation. Then you won't feel the pressure. Then you won't be nervous. Obviously, it's your first game, so you would be nervous. But just play how you have been playing till now," Rizvi added.

Moving forward, Rizvi is bound to get more opportunities to showcase his power-hitting skills, especially with the refreshing approach donned by the CSK franchise where every batter has a role specified for them. One can expect Rizvi to leave a lasting impression once it is all said and done for this season.
