Maxwell took two crucial wickets against Punjab Kings.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) star overseas all-rounder Glenn Maxwell revealed to the commentators that he would rather not bowl at the batting paradise of a wicket at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Maxwell was mic’d up and talking to the broadcasters while fielding against Punjab Kings in RCB's first home game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Maxwell said that RCB have got Cameron Green for a hefty amount in the Bengaluru conditions to bowl against the big hitters. Green was roped in for Rs 17.5 crore in a transfer deal from Mumbai Indians (MI).

"I'd rather not bowl in Chinnaswamy, that's why we have got Cameron Green for how much was it? 45 million dollars?" Maxwell said while exaggerating during PBKS’ innings.

Maxwell strikes twice

However, in the ninth over, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis turned to Maxwell to break the partnership between PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh. He was hit for a four by Dhawan on the first delivery. Prabhsimran attacked him and hit a six over deep backward square leg. But Maxwell managed to break the partnership on the fifth ball. The top-edge off Prabhsimran's bat landed in wicketkeeper Anuj Rawat's gloves.

In his next over, Maxwell was hit for a four and a six by Liam Livingstone. Maxwell got another over as Alzarri Joseph got rid of Livingstone in the next over with a short ball. On the first ball of his third over, Maxwell got the wicket of Dhawan who went for an aerial shot but was caught by Virat Kohli at long-off. This was the fourth time the Australian all-rounder dismissed Dhawan in T20s. He was taken off the attack after the 13th over. He conceded 29 runs from three overs but picked up two crucial wickets.

Green struggles in both departments

Meanwhile, Green remained wicketless in the two overs he bowled. The pacer conceded 19 runs. After PBKS set a target of 177, Green was promoted up the order. He walked in to bat at no.3 after Du Plessis lost his wicket. The all-rounder was unimpressive with the bat and departed for a single-digit score to Kagiso Rabada.
