Virat Kohli has made it official that the 2027 ODI World Cup will be his last as a player. However, he has some unfinished business and has revealed an ideal finish to his World Cup career.

The legendary batter has spoken of his ambition to deliver a match-winning finishing performance in the 2027 World Cup final. However, if the dream doesn't get fulfilled, he would be ‘happy’ to win the World Cup no matter who contributes at the higher level.

During a conversation with JioStar, the former captain said:
“My dream is to play a match-winning, finishing knock in the finals, like chasing a score. That’s the ideal scenario.”
Kohli added:
“If it happens, great. If it doesn’t happen, we win the World Cup, I’ll be as happy.”
Kohli pointed to unfinished business after India’s defeat to Australia in the 2023 final in Ahmedabad. He said the loss still motivates him and that he is determined to leave everything on the field in 2027, with the clear goal of winning the title.
The remarks come as Kohli continues to focus on ODIs following his retirement from Test and T20 international cricket. The Royal Challengers Bangalore superstar had earlier stated, as he announced his last World Cup, that this would be a huge motivation to perform at his highest level and complete some unfinished business.
The upcoming World Cup will be Kohli’s fifth major. He has recorded 14,941 runs in the 50-over format, which is just second to Sachin Tendulkar’s 18,426 runs on the all-time top-scorer list. The 2011 World Cup winner on home soil suffered a disappointing loss in the final of the 2023 edition against Australia in Ahmedabad.
