On the back of a sensational spell of bowling by Mayank Yadav and a brilliant half-century from Quinton de Kock, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 28 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 2 (Tuesday). While LSG registered their second win of the tournament, the RCB lost their third match of the competition.

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis give RCB quick start

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis looked to capitalise on the field restriction from the onset. The duo found boundaries at regular intervals and reached a 40-run partnership in four overs. On the first ball of the fifth over, debutant Manimaran Siddharth dismissed Virat Kohli (22 runs off 16 balls) and the momentum of the game completely shifted. Faf du Plessis (19 runs off 13 balls) was soon run out while attempting a suicidal run.

When Mayank Yadav came into the attack, the RCB's middle order was blown away by the 21-year-old's raw pace. Mayank dismissed Glenn Maxwell for a two-ball duck before bamboozling Cameron Green (9 runs off 9 balls) with a whizzing rocket. Mayank's next victim was Rajat Patidar (29 runs off 21 balls), who was hurried to a pull shot.

Mahipal Lomror unleashed some lusty blows during his knock but his attractive cameo of 33 runs off 13 balls, embellished with three fours and as many sixes, couldn't get RCB even close to the target. In the end, RCB were bundled out for 153 runs with two balls remaining in the match.

Quinton de Kock starts, Nicholas Pooran finishes

After being asked to bat first, the Lucknow Super Giants posted a score of 181/5 on the board in 20 overs. Opener Quinton de Kock and captain KL Rahul gave a flying start to LSG. Rahul was dismissed after scoring 20 runs off 14 balls but de Kock converted his flying start into an 81-run knock of 56 balls. The left-handed batter smashed eight fours and five sixes while Rahul smoked two sixes in his knock.

RCB staged a mini comeback in the middle overs but Nicholas Pooran's onslaught in the last two overs of the innings propelled LSG's score past 180 runs. In his unbeaten cameo of 40 runs off 21 balls, Pooran smashed five sixes and one four.

For RCB, Glenn Maxwell was the pick of all bowlers as he bagged two wickets in his fours overs and conceded just 23 runs. Reece Topley, Yash Dayal and Mohammed Siraj bagged a wicket each.
