'Not good for the spirit of the game. Chaati thok ke...': Navjot Singh Sidhu's blistering take after Virat Kohli's dismissal and outburst against KKR

Former India batter Navjot Singh Sindhu slammed the rules established by the Indian Premier League (IPL) after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) superstar Virat Kohli was dismissed on a high full toss against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Sidhu affirmed that Kohli was dismissed on a 'beamer' which should have been declared a no-ball. Furthermore, the ex-India cricketer opined that the rule needs to be changed as it is against the spirit of the game.

"You want to get Virat Kohli out throwing a beamer and want me to welcome it, not at all. 'Chaati thok ke kehta hun' he was not out and this is not good for the spirit of the game. If a law is bad, it has to be changed with time," Sidhu said on Star Sports.

Virat Kohli's dismissal against KKR

The incident unfolded during the third over of the RCB innings, as Harshit Rana delivered a high full toss. Kohli, caught off guard by the slower pace of the ball, inadvertently handed an easy return catch to the bowler.

To Kohli's surprise, the square leg umpire did not signal the delivery as a no-ball. Reacting swiftly, Kohli opted for the DRS (Decision Review System). Upon review by third umpire Michael Gough using 'smart replay', it was determined that the ball's height was marginally above waist level when Kohli made contact with it. However, it was noted that the ball was dipping, and had Kohli remained in his usual stance, it would not have been considered a no-ball. Consequently, Kohli was given out.

Disappointed and frustrated by the decision, Kohli expressed his displeasure, initially confronting the on-field umpires before making his way back to the pavilion. Along the path, he displayed his frustration by slamming his bat on the turf and tossing his gloves aside. The entire incident was captured on camera, quickly spreading across the internet like wildfire.

Faf du Plessis on Virat Kohli's dismissal

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis spoke about the controversial dismissal but refrained from escalating the situation and conceded being outdone by the rules.

"It was crazy, rules are rules, Virat and myself thought that the ball was higher than the waist, I guess they measured from the popping crease, one team thinks it's high, the other doesn't," Du Plessis told the broadcasters after the match.
