IPL 2024 Points Table: MI slip down to eighth, KKR, CSK retain their spot, LSG out of top four after double header Sunday

Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders and Ruturaj Gaikwad's Chennai Super Kings have retained their spot on the points table of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 after a thrilling double-header Sunday. On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians have faced a dip in their positions in the standing following defeats, on April 14. First, KKR defeated LSG by 8 wickets, and then CSK secured a 20-run win over MI in the evening.

Both Chennai and Kolkata have four wins and 8 points in the tournament so far. However, the Knights are leading as they have a net run rate of 1.688, which is also the highest among all 10 teams. Super Kings' net run rate has reached 0.726 after their win over Mumbai. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals (RR) remain at the top with five wins and 10 points from six matches and have a net run rate of 0.767. RR's last win against Punjab Kings (PBKS) helped them stay on top of the standings.

LSG, MI suffer dip in position

The Super Giants have fallen out of the top four following their loss against KKR. This was LSG's second straight loss after three consecutive wins. On the other hand, five-time champions Mumbai Indians have once again lost the winning momentum after picking up two back-to-back wins. They have moved down to the eighth spot in the points table. This was MI's fourth loss in six matches.

RR, KKR, CSK, and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are currently in the top four respectively. The teams that finish in the top four will qualify for the playoffs.

SRH eye to climb up in the points table

SRH will play their next game against the Royal Challenger Bengaluru (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, on April 15. The Hyderabad-based franchise is currently placed in the fourth position on the points table with three wins from five matches. SRH will be eyeing two more points and a better position on the standings banking on their dominant and explosive batting line-up.

On the contrary, RCB only have one win from six matches and is right at the bottom of the points table. The game is crucial for Bengaluru in order to keep their hopes and chances to qualify in the playoffs alive. 

Another loss here can put an end to fan-favourite franchise's playoff dream.
