In a major boost to Mumbai Indians (MI), premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah joined the squad in Ahmedabad ahead of the franchise's first match of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Bumrah missed the team's entire training camp at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as he was given an extended break following his involvement with the Indian national team during the home Test series against England.
The Mumbai Indians announced the arrival of Bumrah in style as wrote 'LION IS HERE' and shared a picture of the fast bowler across their social media platforms.
Bumrah missed the entire IPL 2023 tournament
Bumrah is undoubtedly the most important cog in Mumbai Indians' aspirations of winning their sixth IPL title. The champion fast bowler missed the entire edition of the cash-rich tournament in 2023 as he was nursing a back injury. In his absence, Mumbai's bowling attack was thin on talent and ultimately it proved to be the difference-maker. Β
With Bumrah back, Mumbai Indians are bound to elevate their performance to greater heights. Most importantly, Bumrah's mere presence instills confidence among the players in the team as he boasts the uncanny ability to win matches single-handedly.
Bumrah' record in IPL
Since making his debut in the cash-rich tournament in IPL 2013, Bumrah made an instant impact on the team's success in the last decade. Bumrah took three years to find its feet and become a regular fit in the playing XI. But once he cemented his place in the side, there was no looking back as Rohit Sharma always turned to Bumrah when he desperately needed a wicket.
Overall, Bumrah has played 120 matches and bagged 145 wickets in the IPL at an economy rate of 7.39. He has two four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul in the tournament. Bumrah's best performance with the ball came in 2020 when finished with 27 wickets in 15 matches at an economy rate of 6.73.
