BCCI releases fitness update on 3 Indian cricketers, Rishabh Pant declared fit for IPL 2024 but 2 star cricketers ruled out

In what came as a huge development, the BCCI announced that Rishabh Pant was declared fit to participate in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) and will play as a wicketkeeper-batter.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on March 12 (Tuesday) announced major updates on the fitness of three Indian cricketers - Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna. In what came as a huge development, the Indian cricket board announced that Rishabh Pant was declared fit to participate in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) and will play as a wicketkeeper-batter.

"Rishabh Pant: After undergoing an extensive 14-month rehab and recovery process, following a life-threatening road mishap on December 30th, 2022, near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant has now been declared fit as a wicket-keeper batter for the upcoming TATA IPL 2024," the BCCI said in a release.

Mohammed Shami to miss IPL 2024

In the release, the Indian cricket board also announced that superstar pacer Mohammed Shami will miss the upcoming edition of the cash-rich tournament. Shami recently underwent surgery for a right heel injury. 

“Mohd Shami: The fast bowler successfully underwent surgery on February 26th, 2024, for his right heel problem. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team and is ruled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024,” the BCCI said. 

Prasidh Krishna ruled out of IPL 2024

Right-arm fast bowler Prasidh Krishna was also ruled out from the upcoming edition of the IPL. The BCCI announced that Krishna recently underwent surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon.

“Prasidh Krishna: The fast bowler underwent surgery on February 23rd, 2024, on his left proximal quadriceps tendon. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and will resume rehab at the National Cricket Academy soon. He will not be able to take part in the upcoming TATA IPL 2024,” the BCCI announced. 

IPL 2024 to begin on March 22

The 17th edition of the best franchise-based T20 league in the world will get underway on March 22. The season opener will see two box-office teams - Chennai Super Kings and Raoyal Challengers Bangalore - cross swords against each other.
