Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to field first at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai against Delhi Capitals (DC). Both captains made seven changes combined for the high-voltage clash.
Williamson handed debut caps to two players. Former Rajasthan Royals bowlers Kartik Tyagi and Shreyas Gopal will make their debut for SRH, replacing injured T Natarajan and Washington Sundar respectively.
Sean Abbott will make his IPL comeback after a long wait of seven years. Abbott has replaced Marco Jansen in the side. The last time Abbott played IPL was in 2015 where he failed to take a wicket and conceded runs at an economy rate of 11.40.
“We will bowl first, dew could be coming later on, something early in the surface and we'll look to exploit it. We've taken positives from the losses and moved on, looking to come back well today. Three changes for us. They're excited to get an opportunity, and have worked hard at the nets. There is a lot to play for in every game and every team, looking to make those small improvements,” Williamson said after winning the toss.
DC’s impact opener Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, Mustafizur Rahman and Chetan Sakariya have been replaced by Mandeep Singh, Ripal Patel, Anrich Nortje and Khaleel Ahmed respectively. DC skipper Rishabh Pant said that some are forced changes due to injuries while others are given the conditions.
“Some are forced changes due to injuries particularly Axar Patel, and few are because of the wicket. There is nothing much to talk (about losses), you can only learn from your mistakes and keep improving,” Pant said after losing the toss.
