The four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are having a nightmarish kind of campaign in the ongoing 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), having suffered losses in their first four matches. Seeing them lying on bottom of the IPL points table is a rare sight for everyone. Hardly anything has gone their way so far in the IPL 2022 for the Ravindra Jadeja-led side.
However, there is someone who thinks CSK can still revive their chances to get back to the winning ways. Former CSK wicket-keeper batter Parthiv Patel has an advice for the Yellow army that might bring a change in fortune for the rest of the matches in IPL 2022.
The 37-year-old wants MS Dhoni to promote himself in batting, rather open for CSK instead of playing lower down the order.
“He is someone who has revived the CSK side over the years. MS Dhoni started his career as an opener, why not take the role in the fag-end of his career? He is batting at No.7 now and plays hardly 10-15 balls. So why not Dhoni bat up in the order at No.3 or maybe at 4 or open? Just a figure like MS Dhoni, even if he stays there for 14-15 overs you never know. You will have to do something different,” Parthiv said on Cricbuzz.
Former CSK skipper has never opened in T20 cricket, however, he played a couple of ODIs as opener almost 17 years back.
Acknowledging his past records, Parthiv further said Dhoni has scored runs on several challenging tracks.
“Every time India were in trouble in seaming conditions, MS Dhoni has got runs, whether it was against Sri Lanka where he got 80 in Dharamsala or in Chennai against Pakistan where he got a hundred. With his technique, everyone would think that he would struggle on a seaming wicket and here the ball is seaming around in the first 4-5 overs and he has his own technique and knows how to survive,” asserted the 37-year-old.
Chennai, the defending champions, struggled to reach 131/5 in the tournament opener, against Kolkata Knight Riders. They turned things around with 210/7 against Lucknow Super Giants, but Lucknow outdid them at hitting. Against Punjab Kings, they collapsed to 126, while they scored 154/7 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, who were without a win until that match.
Amid CSK's disastrous campaign, everyone is pinning hope on Dhoni to take his team out of this precarious position.
For the first time, the 4-time champions have been winless after the first 4 matches of a season.
The last time Chennai Super Kings lost 4 matches on the trot was in 2010. The Men in Yellow had lost to Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals on the trot. However, CSK went on to win their maiden IPL title that year.
