Rishabh Pant on April 4 arrived at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi to cheer for Delhi Capitals (DC) against defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT). Pant walked with crutches, wore a white t-shirt, shorts and heavily strapped right knee as he watched the clash between the two from the stands. Pant’s car was surrounded by the media outside the stadium. When asked about his recovery, Pant gave a thumbs up to Sports Tak reporter and indicated that he will talk later.

In Pant’s absence, Australia’s David Warner is leading the side. After a heavy 50-run defeat in their first encounter of the season, Warner handed debut cap to Pant’s replacement 20-year-old Abhishek Porel. In the previous game played at Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, players paid tribute to Pant by hanging his jersey in the dugout.

Porel walked out to bat at no.6 for DC. The left-handed batter played a cameo of 20 from just 11 balls. The 20-year-old hit two sixes during his short stay at the crease. He lost his wicket to Rashid Khan in the 13th over.

DC head coach Ricky Ponting wanted Pant to be involved with the team’s IPL 2023 journey.

"In an ideal world for me, he’d be sitting next to me in the dugout every match. But if that’s not possible, we’d like to make him part of the team in ways possible. We can have his number on our shirts or on caps. Just to make it clear that he’s our leader, even if he’s not with us,” Ponting had said last month.

Pant was involved in an unfortunate accident on December 30 morning. The wicketkeeper-batter underwent several surgeries and currently doing his rehabilitation. He has been ruled out of action for 2023 which means he will miss World Test Championship (WTC) final, ODI World Cup 2023.
