Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured a 12-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 4 (Monday) and with this victory the KL Rahul-led side climbed up to fifth spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) points table.

The Lucknow-based franchise currently have four points from three matches, with a positive Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.193.

On the other hand, SRH are still languishing at the bottom of the points table. The Kane Williamson-led franchise are yet to secure their first victory after playing two matches in the 15th edition of IPL.

Match details

Batting first, LSG had registered a total of 169/7 in 20 overs against SRH. The Lucknow-based team had lost their first three wickets within first five overs of the match. But later, a solid partnership of 87 runs off 62 balls between Rahul (68 runs off 50 deliveries) and Deepak Hooda (51 runs off 33 balls) helped their side in avoiding the early danger. Eventually, LSG managed to post a defendable total of 169 runs in 20 overs.

In reply, Rahul Tripathi (44 runs off 30 balls) and wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran (34 runs off 24 balls) tried to put up a brave show for SRH but ultimately it turned out to be futile as the Hyderabad-based franchise could only manage to reach 157 runs in 20 overs.

LSG pacer Avesh Khan picked up four wickets in the match to clinch an important victory for his side.

Purple Cap

Avesh’s terrific match-winning bowling display helped him in climbing up to the second spot in the Purple Cap race. The Madhya Pradesh-born pacer (7 wickets) is presently one wicket behind KKR's Umesh Yadav (8 wickets).

On the other hand, LSG batter Hooda jumped to third spot in the Orange Cap race. The 26-year-old batter has scored 119 runs in three matches in the ongoing edition of IPL. Mumbai Indians (MI) wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan (135 runs) still claims the top spot in the list.
