India U19 beat Australia U19 by 103 runs to seal One-Day series as Yashbardhan stars with 122

In the second of the three One-Day series, Lakshya Raichandani-led India U19 beat Australia U19 by 103 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead. At Niranjan Shah Stadium, on September 21, Yashbardhan Chauhan starred with a 100-ball 122 and two wickets in the convincing win.

Sehwag misses fifty, Vineeth dismissed before ton

Raichandani won the toss and opted to bat first. He couldn't score freely and fell for a 29-ball 11 to Thomas Vaseo. On the other end, Aaryavir Sehwag scored boundaries. Sehwag missed his fifty as he was run out for a 48-ball 47 by Jack Czosnek in the 19th over. The opener hit nine fours during his stay at the crease.

Yashbardhan joined VK Vineeth in the middle. They looked to rebuild the innings. At the halfway stage, the hosts were 134/2. In the 31st over, Vineeth reached his fifty with a six. The duo started accelerating in the middle overs. In the 34th over, Yashbardhan hit a six and a four to complete his half-century from 53 balls. In the 40th over, Connor Gregory broke the third wicket partnership. Vineeth fell for a 92-ball 87 laced with fours fours and six sixes. They shared a 132-run partnership.

Yashbardhan scores century

Yashbardhan did not slow down as the slog overs approached. Kushagra Ojha scored quickly as well. In the 46th over, Yashbardhan reached his century from 89 deliveries. In the next over, he hit Vaseo for three consecutive fours. Vaseo made a comeback with Ojha's wicket. He scored 34 runs from 20 balls including five fours and a six. In the penultimate over, Vaseo got the wicket of Yashbardhan as well. He scored 122 runs from 100 balls, including 15 fours and a couple of sixes.

No fireworks in last 2 overs, India post 342-run target

In the final over, Patrick Sullivan struck twice to dismiss Manal Chauhan and Anvay Dravid. Rahul Dravid's son managed to score nine runs from eighth deliveries. Despite an unimpressive finish, India U19 managed to post a big total of 341/7 on the board. Vaseo took three wickets but conceded 78 runs from his quota of 10 overs.

Czosnek stages Australia’s comeback

In the run chase, Indian-origin Neel Patel was dismissed lbw for a single-digit score by Chigurupati Venkata in the second over. Mohit Ulva got rid of Hayden Barbulovic in the fifth over. Matthew Lough looked to maintain the scoring rate by finding boundaries. In the 13th over, Kavya Patel dismissed Loough for a 42-ball 40. He scored 40 runs via boundaries. Czosnek looked to score at a rapid rate. In the 22nd over, he hit Yashveer Goud for two fours and a six to reach his fifty from 48 balls. The visitors were 158/3 at the halfway stage.

Australia collapse in run chase

Kavya ended Blake Cattle and Czosnek's attack. In the 27th over, Patel got the wicket of Czosnek who faced 63 balls to score 81 runs including seven fours and four sixes. After a few expensive overs, Yashbardhan was brought back into the attack. He delivered with Cattle's wicket. He was knocked over for a 47-ball 44. Australia U19 lost half the side for 200 in 31 overs.

Yashbardhan also got the wicket of Gregory in the 37th over. The run chase was derailed and Australia suffered a collapse. Venkata returned to dismiss Zed Hollick who scored 33 runs from 40 balls. Then, he dismissed Sullivan as well. Goud and Manal bagged one wicket each as Australia were bowled out for 238 in 31.1 overs.

The third and final One-Day game of the series will be played at the same venue on September 23.
