Punjab Kings' (PBKS) fielding coach Jonty Rhodes has been handed dual responsibility now as he has taken up the additional role of batting coach now. Head coach Anil Kumble will work with spinners and Damien Wright remains fast bowling coach.

Earlier, former India opener Wasim Jaffer announced his departure from the Punjab Kings (PBKS) franchise in a unique and hilarious way. Jaffer announced that he has stepped down as the batting coach of the PBKS on the eve of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Jaffer played 31 Tests for India and scored 1944 runs with the highest score of 212.

Jonty was also with the Mumbai Indians as fielding for nine seasons from 2009 and played an instrumental role in taking his side from being strugglers to becoming the most successful team in the IPL. The former South African player, who is regarded as one of the best fielders of all time, has 5935 runs against his name in ODIs and 2532 runs in the longest format.

Punjab Kings has never won the IPL trophy and has played final only once under the captaincy of George Bailey. They will look to end their title drought in IPL 2022.

The team will also decide on the captaincy soon. Retained opener Mayank Agarwal, who has performed consistently for the team, had led the the team in K L Rahul's absence last season when the latter was injured.

India opener Dhawan has emerged as a strong candidate for captaincy. He is senior to Agarwal and a consistent performer in the IPL. Dhawan has briefly captained Sunrisers Hyderabad.

"The team is keen to have an Indian captain and its choice will be announced shortly," a BCCI official said.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings went into the IPL 2022 auctions with the fattest purse of Rs 72 crore. From the previous squad, PBKS had retained only two players in Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh. By the time the IPL 2022 auction got over, Punjab ended up acquiring a total of 23 players, including some star players in Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada and Jonny Bairstow to name a few.

PBKS' most expensive buy was that of England all-rounder Liam Livingstone, on whom they shelled out a whopping ₹11.5 crore on the second day. Besides, they also made Shahrukh Khan the most expensive uncapped Indian of all time.
