India's capital city Delhi has been a regular part of Indian Premier League since its inaugural edition in 2008. The franchise started its journey with the name of Delhi Daredevils and had some marquee signings back then. Virendra Sehwag, David Warner, Gautam Gambhir, Glenn McGrath, AB de Villiers and the list goes on who built the fan base of the Delhi-based franchise. Despite having great campaigns over the years, they couldn't win a single title so far. Later the franchise was rechristened as Delhi Capitals (DC). They have always looked good on paper but have failed to go all the way and win it for the fans. Having Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting in their think tank could change their fortunes but the absence of their star player may haunt them going forward.
Loaded top order
David Warner, and Prithvi Shaw as openers and Mitchell Marsh, Manish Pandey and other fire powers to follow make a solid case for DC at the top. In addition to strong batting, they have a settled core with Axar Patel proving his case both with the bat and ball. The presence of pacers Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi brings that extra pace into the equation. Experienced Ishant Sharma, Mustafizur Rahman and Kuldeep Yadav provide more balance to the side. On Paper Delhi look like a side to beat and if they find the right combination they can challenge for the IPL trophy this time.
Delhi Capitals will face Lucknow Super Giants in their first game. Rishabh Pant's absence will haunt the Capitals as they aim to clinch their maiden IPL title. But the presence of inform Mitchell Marsh will give a big boost going forward. With Rishabh Pant ruled out of IPL, Delhi have a total of 24 players that includes 16 Indians and 8 overseas players. David Warner will lead the side and his experience at the top is another thing that Delhi is banking on.
