Left-arm fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed is eyeing a comeback into the Indian side on the back of his performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. After making an impressive debut for the Delhi-based franchise, he feels he “can serve India for 10-12 years”.

“I think I can serve India for 10-12 years and I am raring to go. I know where I stand. I am prepared. You will see a different Khaleel this time in the IPL and for India in the future,” Khaleel told The Times of India.

Khaleel has been out of the Indian side since November 2019. He has picked up 13 wickets from 14 T20Is and 15 wickets from 11 ODIs. The 24-year-old is eager to get another chance to prove his worth.

“I am just 24 and bowling over 140. I can swing the ball also. I am sure I can serve Indian cricket for a long time. I just need to be fit and confident. If I get the chance, you will see a different Khaleel Ahmed,” he added.

On debut for DC, he took the wickets of Mumbai Indians (MI) batters Tim David, Tilak Varma and conceded 27 runs from his quota of four overs. His spell helped DC restrict MI for 177/5 despite a rampant Ishan Kishan on the crease batting till the end. After playing just one game under Rishabh Pant, he believes that the wicketkeeper-batter is capable of leading the franchise to their maiden title.

“I am confident Delhi Capitals will win their maiden title this time. Rishabh is a talented captain and has been doing really well for Delhi. I am sure Rishabh will lead Delhi to their maiden title win,” he further added.

The pacer was picked for Rs 5.25 crore by DC in the IPL 2022 mega auction after a tussle with MI. He will be seen in action again when Capitals take on Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 2 (Saturday) at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.
