Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) frontline bowler Lockie Ferguson bowled the fastest ball of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in the clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on September 25. Ferguson’s fastest ball clocked at 152.75 kmph. The previous fastest ball in the ongoing season was bowled by Delhi Capitals’ (DC) recorded at 151.71 kmph.
Despite the raw pace, the Kiwi speedster managed to take just one wicket of Moeen Ali and gave 33 runs in his quota of four overs. The 30-year-old was economical in his first spell giving 14 runs from two overs but went for 11 runs in his third over. He also bowled a beamer to Suresh Raina in the 17th over for which he apologised straightaway.
Ferguson’s speed in previous seasons
This is not the first time Ferguson has bowled with speeds over 150. In fact, he does it quite consistently. In previous season, Ferguson’s fastest delivery clocked at 153.84. In 2019, his fastest ball was 151.69. As per the statistics available, the record for fastest ball (156.22 kmph) in IPL belongs to South African fast bowler Nortje.
Ferguson’s performance in second leg
Not given a single game in the first phase of IPL 2021, Ferguson has taken five wickets from three games. His economy rate is seven runs per over which is better than Pat Cummins, who was given preference as the team’s overseas fast bowler.
