Report: Deepak Chahar likely to join CSK squad from mid-April in IPL 2022

Indian all-rounder Deepak Chahar is set to be available for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 edition by the middle of April. Chahar was roped in by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise for a huge amount of Rs 14 crore at the mega IPL auction, held in Bengaluru. Chahar became the second most expensive buy at the mega IPL auction, after Ishan Kishan. Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise had spent a whopping amount of Rs 15.25 crore.


Chahar's status

Chahar is currently undergoing a rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), in Bengaluru.


It is important to mention that Chahar was injured during the series against West Indies as he had to suffer a quadricep tear.  According to media report, Chahar will not undergo surgery and he will be fit by middle of April to play for defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL. The report also suggests that Chennai Super Kings team want Chahar to join their camp in Surat.


CSK, on the other hand, roped in Irish pace bowler Josh Little as net bowler in absence of Deepak Chahar.


In IPL, the 29-year-old all-rounder, has till now played 63 matches and picked up 59 wickets at an economy rate of 7.8.

Ahead of the mega auction for IPL 2022, CSK had decided to retain four players and they were- skipper MS Dhoni, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, England all-rounder Moeen Ali and Indian batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad.


CSK will start their IPL journey against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 26, at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. CSK are in Group B along with- Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore and newest entrant Gujarat Titans.


The grand final of the IPL is expected to be played on May 29.


The 15th edition of IPL will see ten teams vying for the prestigious trophy as Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants are two new teams to take part in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. The two newcomers will take on each other on March 28.


Indian all-rounder Hadrik Pandya will be seen leading the Gujarat-based franchise and Indian batter KL Rahul will lead the Lucknow-based team.
