Virat Kohli becomes first Indian batter to complete 10,000 runs in T20 cricket. During his half-century knock against Mumbai Indians (MI), Kohli got to the milestone only four cricketers have achieved in the history of the format. 

 

Before the match, Kohli needed 13 runs to reach 10,000 T20 runs. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper scored 51 runs from 42 deliveries including three fours and three sixes. During his innings, he also surpassed an out-of-form David Warner who has 10,019 runs in T20 cricket. 

 

Kohli's numbers

Kohli took 299 innings (314 matches) to enter the elite list of batters. The legendary batsman has an average of 41.61. He has scored 10 centuries and 74 half-centuries in the format. The 32-year-old is currently the leading run-scorer in IPL with 6,185 runs from 202 matches. He is also the leading run-scorer in T20I cricket with 3,159 runs including 28 half-centuries at an impressive average of 52.65.

 

The 10,000 club

The leading run-scorer list is topped by Chris Gayle who has 14,275 runs playing for a huge number of franchises. He also has 22 centuries to his name which is a T20 record. Gayle is followed by Kieron Pollard who as 11,195 runs. Among the top 10 T20 run-scorers, he is the only cricketer to feature in over 500 games. Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik is another batsman on the list with 10,808 runs followed by Warner.
