The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has already started and the 70 league matches of the ongoing season will be held across four venues in Maharashtra. Wankhede, DY Patil Stadium, Brabourne stadium, and MCA Stadium will host the group games. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently in discussion to finalise the venues of the playoff matches.

Probable playoff venues

“We are keeping all the circumstances in mind while deciding the playoff venues. We don't want any situation where any problem comes up. As of now we have not taken any decision but yes, some venues are in our mind,” a source in the know of development told Sports Tak.

“Since all league matches are being played in Mumbai and Pune, we might have the playoff there depending upon the situation close to the end of league matches. If travel needs to be avoided it can be held there otherwise we can move the playoffs to some other venue which is close to Mumbai. We have one more round of GC soon and we will take a call in the meeting,” the source further added.

Allowing fans

While talking about the chances of increasing fans at the venue, the source said that they “want to increase the capping of crowd.”

“We want to increase the capping of crowd. It would be great to have more fans at ground but it depends whether government will permit or not. If they allow then we will surely raise the numbers of fans. We are in talks and soon a decision will be taken.”

Mumbai Indians franchise led by Rohit Sharma have Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Lucknow Super Giants in Group A of the 2022 edition of IPL.

On the other hand, Group B is comprised of defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrises Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Gujarat Titans (GT).

Previously, the defending champions CSK lost the season opener against KKR by six wickets.
