RCB great Virat Kohli set to smell history in IPL 2025, to become 1st Indian to bag this mighty milestone

Virat Kohli is set to make his highly anticipated return to T20 cricket for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2025. Following his retirement from T20Is after India's title triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup, Kohli will now participate exclusively in the shortest format in the IPL. While not yet confirmed, there is speculation that Kohli could potentially lead RCB in IPL 2025, having previously captained the team full-time from IPL 2013 to 2021.

Virat Kohli is on the verge of a historic achievement, poised to become the first Indian to reach a major milestone in T20 cricket during IPL 2025. As India's leading run-scorer in the format, with 12,886 runs from 399 matches, he is just 114 runs shy of becoming the first Indian to amass 14,000 runs in T20s.

Virat Kohli's T20 journey began with his debut for the Delhi state team in 2007. The following year, he led India's Under-19 team to victory in the Junior World Cup.  His success in that ICC tournament led to his selection by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2008 draft. Kohli has remained with RCB ever since, making him the only player to have represented a single IPL team in every season.

Virat Kohli's early IPL seasons were marked by inconsistency, and he didn't surpass 300 runs in a season until 2010. However, he has been a consistently high-performing batsman in the IPL since the 2011 season.

Of Virat Kohli's 12,886 T20 runs, 4,188 were scored in international matches. He previously held the record for the highest number of runs in T20 Internationals.

Chris Gayle leads the pack as the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket, with 14,562 runs in 463 matches.  The West Indies legend's impressive record includes 22 centuries and a staggering 1,056 sixes.  Following Gayle are Alex Hales (13,610 runs), Kieron Pollard (13,537 runs), Shoaib Malik (13,492 runs), and David Warner (12,913 runs), respectively.
