Former Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) star Ambati Rayudu left everyone surprised by publicly announcing his support for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to clinch the IPL 2025 trophy. With RCB set to lock horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 3, Rayudu has thrown his weight behind RCB to finally lift the coveted title.
Ambati Rayudu wants RCB to lift IPL 2025 trophy
Rayudu wants RCB to bring the trophy home as he took to X to congratulate the team for making it to the IPL final. He further stated his belief that RCB genuinely deserves to win the silverware this season and achieve their maiden title under the leadership of Rajat Patidar. This declaration comes as a surprise to many RCB fans, considering Rayudu's history of success with both CSK and Mumbai Indians, where he won three titles each, and his past outspokenness regarding his dislike for the Bengaluru franchise.
"There has always been an amazing cricketing rivalry between the 3 great southern cities.. I think it’s time for the great city of Bangalore to win their first ever Ipl trophy tonight, which they truly deserve to this season.. Go RCB.. bring it home.." Rayudu's post on X read.
Reflecting on RCB's journey to this grand final, their campaign kicked off with a notable win against the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), in the opening match of the tournament held on March 22nd at Eden Gardens. Throughout the season, the Rajat Patidar-led team demonstrated exceptional form in their away games, remaining undefeated. Despite facing initial challenges in their home matches, they staged a remarkable comeback, ultimately becoming the first team to secure their spot in the Playoffs. A significant contributor to RCB's success has been their star batter, Virat Kohli. He has been in phenomenal touch, amassing 614 runs across 14 innings with an impressive average of 55.81 and a striking rate of 146.53. The accomplished opener has also recorded eight half-centuries this season, the highest number by any batter in the tournament's history. Kohli will once again be pivotal to RCB's chances of lifting the coveted trophy. On the bowling front, Australia's Josh Hazlewood has emerged as their leading performer. The seasoned right-arm fast bowler has featured in just 11 matches but has been instrumental in their victories, claiming 21 wickets. His impactful bowling has single-handedly secured wins for the franchise on numerous occasions this season, and he is set to take the field once more, aiming to prove his mettle against the Punjab Kings in the all-important final.
