After facing a heavy loss against Punjab Kings on Thursday, Mumbai Indians' head coach Mahela Jayawardene dropped an update on Rohit Sharma's hamstring injury ahead of their game against Gujarat Titans.
Big update on Rohit Sharma's fitness
At the post-match press conference, Jayawardene revealed that star opener Rohit Sharma has started running again, saying there is nothing serious to worry about. Although, the former Sri-Lankan player noted that they won't be pushing the former India captain as it is still early in the season.

"He started running yesterday; we'll take it day to day to see how he feels. He knows his body better than anybody else, so it's nothing serious. But at the same time, we don't want to push him as it's still early in the season," he said.
Rohit Sharma picked up a hamstring injury in Mumbai Indians' defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Sunday, April 12 at the Wankhede Stadium. While chasing 241, Rohit got off to a great start but had to leave the field because of a hamstring injury after scoring 19 off 13 balls.
Mahela Jayawardene opens up on Jasprit Bumrah's niggle
After the game, MI coach Mahela Jayawardene shed some light on the issue, revealing that Jasprit Bumrah had been managing his workload because of a niggle carried over from India's ICC T20 World Cup 2026 triumph.
"I think initially because he had a slight niggle which came from the World Cup," said Jayawardene.
Jayawardene further claimed that Bumrah's speed has gone up in recent games and seemed very comfortable with his bowling.
"We wanted to build him up (and) over the last few games his speeds have gone up. We’ve looked at all that so he’s very comfortable. Sometimes, you need a bit of luck as well." added Jayawardene.
Rohit Sharma's fin season with the bat
After playing four matches, Rohit Sharma's run tally stands at 137 runs at a great strike rate of 165.06, the former India captain has hit 13 fours and eight sixes in the ongoing campaign. It will be interesting to see if Rohit manages to continue his fine form after coming from injury.
