The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are not doing well in the 2025 Indian Premier League. With one victory and two consecutive defeats in their first three tournament games, they are now ranked seventh in the standings. The five-time champions have called up young Ayush Mhatre, who will be with the team for the rest of the competition, despite concerns being raised about their roster.
Ayush Mhatre called for mid-season trials
The Times of India reported that during mid-season trials, Ayush Mhatre was chosen by the Chennai Super Kings. He will now travel with the CSK team after being unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. He is now unable to be drafted into the official squad, though. Only if one of the team's players sustains an injury and is sidelined for the rest of the 2025 Indian Premier League can it occur. After training in the India U-19 zonal camp in Rajkot, Ayush Mhatre joined the CSK team.

CSK managing director Kasi Viswanathan told The Times of India that Ayush Mhatre made an impression on the team's talent scouts. He did, however, affirm that they have not altered their team.
“Yes, we’ve called him for trials. He has impressed our talent scouts. No (injuries); if there is any need, we will do that. We are not picking anybody, it is just a trial," Viswanathan had confirmed
