The IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 clash will see PBKS and MI taking on each other

Ahead of the clash, let's know what will happen if the Qualifier 2 match gets abandoned

The action-packed Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Qualifier 2 clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) is all set to unfold on June 1, Sunday at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. However, fans are wondering what if the all-important match gets washed out due to rain, and what will be the implications in that scenario.

What if IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 match gets abandoned?

Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, PBKS are aiming for a historic return to the IPL final, a feat they haven't achieved in over a decade. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya's MI, the most successful franchise in IPL history with five titles, are looking to secure their spot in yet another final.

This match follows Qualifier 1, which was played between PBKS and RCB and the Eliminator tie, which was played between GT and MI, both of which were held at Mullanpur Stadium in Mohali. The BCCI revised the playoff schedule, relocating the final rounds of the tournament, including Qualifier 2 and the final, to Ahmedabad due to recent geopolitical tensions and security concerns.

As excitement builds for the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 between PBKS and MI in Ahmedabad, a key concern is the weather. According to AccuWeather.com, there's only a 5 per cent chance of rain during the match. While this probability is relatively low, the possibility of a complete washout can't be entirely ruled out.

IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 clash does not have a reserve day unlike the IPL final, which has one built into the schedule. This means that if the match is completely washed out due to adverse weather, PBKS will automatically advance to the IPL 2025 final because they currently have a better Net Run Rate (NRR) than MI.

To minimize the chances of a washout and maximize playing time, the BCCI has incorporated extra time provisions into the playing conditions. As per Clause 13.7.3 of the IPL Playing Conditions, an additional 120 minutes are available in case of a delayed start or an interruption during the game. This extra time will be used before any reduction in the number of overs per innings. If needed, the time typically allocated for strategic time-outs and innings changeovers can also be reduced to ensure as much play as possible. It's worth noting that for Super Over scenarios, the 10-minute changeover period is not included in these extra time calculations.
