Rishabh Pant has become the most expensive buys in the history of Indian Premier League. LSG broke bank to grab him for a whopping Rs 27 crores in the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday, November 24. Pant apparently surpassed Shreyas Iyer, who was acquired by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for a staggering Rs 26.75 crores.

Pant's previous franchise Delhi Capitals (DC), who exercised their Right to Match (RTM) card option to bring back their former captain for Rs. 20.75 crore. However, LSG triggered the Right to Match (RTM) card and subsequently outbid DC to acquire Pant for a significantly higher price.

Pant's inclusion will certainly add firepower to LSG batting lineup and strengthens their wicket-keeping options besides Nicholas Pooran.
Earlier, Pant was released by the Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2024 IPL auction. He had been an integral part of the franchise since 2016 and had even captained the side in 2021 and 2022.

After a devastating car accident in December 2022, Pant made a remarkable recovery and returned to competitive cricket in the 2024 IPL. He was reinstated as the captain of Delhi Capitals, but the team struggled to perform consistently. But, Pant did turn heads with his splendid performance after a long injury layoff as he managed 446 runs in the season.

Rishabh Pant's journey to the Indian Premier League (IPL) began after his impressive performances in domestic cricket and the Under-19 World Cup. In the 2016 IPL auction, the Delhi Capitals secured his services. During his debut season, Pant played 10 matches and scored 198 runs, including a half-century.
The 2017 IPL season saw Pant solidify his position in the Delhi Capitals squad. He played all 14 league games and contributed with 366 runs, highlighted by two half-centuries.
The 2018 IPL was a breakthrough year for Pant. Although Delhi Capitals didn't qualify for the playoffs, Pant's batting prowess shone through. He amassed 684 runs at an astonishing strike rate of nearly 174, including a century and five half-centuries. Since the 2018 IPL season, Rishabh Pant has maintained a consistent run-scoring form, never falling short of 300 runs in a single season. His performance has been particularly impressive between 2019 and 2022, where he achieved two seasons with over 400 runs and two more with over 300 runs.
In 2021, Pant was entrusted with the captaincy of the Delhi Capitals. However, a serious car accident in December 2022 forced him to miss the entire 2023 IPL season. Throughout his IPL career, Pant has played 111 matches, accumulating 3284 runs, including a century and 18 half-centuries.
