The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on May 9 amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. After the suspension, the BCCI is looking for the next course of action. However, the Indian cricket board is focused on ensuring the safe return of players, coaches and officials.
Sources close to Sports Tak revealed that many of the overseas players and officials are set to return to their respective countries as early as Friday, May 9 and BCCI will facilitate their travel arrangements to their respective countries.
The suspension of the cash-rich league was prompted by ongoing military conflict and escalating security concerns after the April 22 terror attacks in Pahalgam. An emergency meeting between IPL officials and BCCI concluded the safety of players, staff, and fans must be prioritised.
"Players spectators and support staffs safety is our priority we will do everything what is in best interest of nations. We are monitoring the situation and Will take call accordingly,” BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia told India Today after PBKS vs DC was suspended midway.
BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla also confirmed that the schedule of he remainder of the IPL 2025 will be announced after consultation with all stakeholders. Shukla also assured that the Indian cricket board stands with the nation's armed forces and the government.

Shukla revealed that the decision to suspend the cash-rich league has been made in the wake of cross-border tensions between the two neighbouring nations.
"IPL 2025 has been suspended for a week in view of the current situation. The new schedule for the tournament will be announced after consultation with the government, stakeholders and the broadcasters. We are proud of the Indian Army. BCCI stands with our Armed Forces and the government," Shukla said.
A BCCI source earlier told Sports tak that the Indian board arranged a special Vande Bharat train to transport players from Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and the entire broadcast crew from Dharamshala to Delhi after the match between PBKS and DC was abandoned due to border concerns between Indian and Pakistan.
