Mumbai Indians (MI) seemingly took a cheeky dig at Punjab Kings (PBKS) bowler Arshdeep Singh after their win over PBKS in IPL 2026. Team's social media post following the game quickly grabbed attention online, with fans linking it to the pacer’s recent ‘andhera’ remark aimed at Tilak Varma.

The incident traces back to a viral Snapchat clip featuring Arshdeep and Tilak Varma. In the video, Arshdeep jokingly referred to Tilak as ‘andhere’ while discussing sunscreen and compared him to PBKS batter Naman Dhir, whom he called the real ‘noor’ from Punjab. While the exchange appeared casual between the players, the clip triggered criticism across social media, with several users accusing the remark of carrying racist undertones.

Mumbai Indians’ viral response after PBKS win

Following MI’s thrilling six-wicket victory over PBKS on May 14 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, the franchise uploaded a celebratory video featuring Tilak Varma holding his post-match awards. However, what truly caught fans’ attention was the opening sequence of the clip.

The video began in complete darkness while the lyric “Andhera tera main le liya” from the popular song Channa Mereya played in the background. Social media users instantly connected the edit to Arshdeep Singh’s earlier comment, interpreting it as Mumbai Indians’ subtle response after defeating Punjab Kings in a high-pressure encounter.

The win itself was a crucial one for Mumbai. After stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah opted to bowl first, Punjab Kings suffered a middle-order collapse despite being strongly placed at 107/1. Shardul Thakur turned the game around with a four-wicket haul before PBKS eventually posted 200/8.

Tilak Varma shines under pressure for MI

Tilak responded in style amid the outside noise surrounding the controversy. The left-handed batter produced one of his finest knocks of the season, smashing an unbeaten 75 runs off just 33 deliveries in a pressure chase.

Mumbai Indians lost early wickets during the pursuit before Tilak Varma stitched together a crucial partnership with Sherfane Rutherford to stabilize the innings. He later accelerated alongside Will Jacks, guiding MI to victory with one ball remaining.

Tilak’s aggressive strokeplay and composure earned him major post-match awards as Mumbai Indians continued their push in IPL 2026.
