Following a difficult start to their IPL 2025 campaign, Chennai Super Kings supporters are hoping for a comeback from the five-time champions. However, some concerning images of MS Dhoni hobbling following his heroics against the Lucknow Super Giants have surfaced. On Monday, April 14, the CSK captain put on an all-around effort that helped put a stop to the team's five-match losing streak, although he did not seem to be at his best physically.

Even while he was keeping wickets, Dhoni showed indications of pain. He had managed to magically run out Abdul Samad, but he was clearly having trouble staying upright. However, when Super Kings needed more than 10 runs per over in the last five overs of the chase, he went out to bat. He then partnered with Shivam Dube to win the match, smashing 26 off just 11 deliveries. In order to prevent fast singles and striving for more runs between the wickets, Dhoni mostly relied on huge strokes.

He was later observed limping as he made his way down the dressing room stairs for post-match responsibilities. As he made his way to accept the Player of the Match trophy, which was his first in the IPL in seven years, Dhoni actually seemed as like he was unable to move freely. But as he got off the team bus, he had neither a cap nor a knee brace on.

Although Dhoni has been dealing with a problematic knee for the previous few years, Monday was the first time this season that he was visibly uncomfortable. But neither the Chennai Super Kings management nor MS Dhoni have voiced any worries about a possible injury. In an interview with the media after CSK's triumph in Lucknow, bowling coach Eric Simons made no mention of the issue.

After winning the toss and deciding to field against the formidable Lucknow Super Giants batting lineup, Dhoni stayed cool and collected on the field. With a direct hit from well behind the wicket, he completed a spectacular run-out, catching the batsman short at the non-striker's end. He was nimble behind the stumps. Matheesha Pathirana also put him to the test by delivering multiple deliveries that veered down Dhoni's leg side, keeping him alert.

The Super Kings held the Super Giants to 166 runs in their allocated 20 overs, thanks to Dhoni's superb glovework and a disciplined bowling display. During his recent IPL stints, Dhoni has been coping with a shaky knee. He played through agony to lead CSK to their fifth IPL championship in the 2023 season before having surgery in Mumbai following the competition. But in 2024, knee issues reappeared.

Dhoni was able to participate in all 14 of CSK's games last season in spite of his ongoing problems. Dhoni stated in a recent podcast that his IPL future would be determined by how his body reacts at the conclusion of each season. Ahead of their crucial matchup with the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 20, CSK supporters will be praying the seasoned wicketkeeper heals quickly and returns to full fitness. The Super Kings will take a five-day rest prior to that important match.
