After going for 93 runs on ODI debut, Ireland pacer Liam McCarthy bowls 2nd most expensive spell in T20I history

Ireland pacer Liam McCarthy is facing a trial by fire in international cricket. After a lacklustre ODI debut where he conceded 93 runs, now he has bowled the most expensive spell by a pacer from a Test-playing nation. 
 

On June 15 at Bready Cricket Club, Norther Ireland, Liam conceded 81 runs from his quota of four overs at an economy rate of 20.25. This is the second-most expensive spell in T20Is.
 

Ireland conceded 256/5 against West Indies and lost the T20I by 62 runs. So far, Liam has played three ODIs and two T20Is. He has five wickets in ODIs but has an economy rate of 7.40 runs per over.
 

The unwanted record of most runs conceded in a T20I innings belongs to Musa Jobarteh. Against Zimbabwe on October 23, he went for 93 runs from four overs. Zimbabwe also posted the highest ever T20I total in that encounter. 
 

The previous record for most runs conceded in a T20I belonged to Barry McCarthy. He went for 69 runs from four overs against Afghanistan on March 12, 2017, in Greater Noida.
 

Overall, Liam McCarthy bowled the joint third-most expensive spell in T20s. The second spot belongs to Mattie Mckiernan who conceded 82 runs for Derbyshire against Somerset in T20 Blast 2022. 
 

The other two who have taken the third spot are Sarmad Anwar and SP Roshan Kumar. Playing for Sialkot Lions against Lahore Lions, he conceded 81 runs from 4 overs. Last year, Roshan Kumar entered the list as he took 2 wickets but conceded 81 runs against Baroda in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024.
