Alex Hales equals Chris Gayle on elite list with robust half-century in CPL 2025

Alex Hales scored a gritty half-century to ensure that the Trinbago Knight Riders emerged victorious over the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025. The former England batter remained unbeaten on 55 runs from 46 deliveries, guiding the side to a comprehensive 8-wicket win. 

Hales maintained a decent strike-rate of 119.57 in his unbeaten knock which included six boundaries. He formed a massive 87-run partnership with Keacy Carty, who also scored a half-century. This stand massively helped the Knight Riders in easily chasing down the target of 147 with eight deliveries left to spare.

This was Hales' 88th half-century in T20 cricket and it saw him equal Chris Gayle as the player with the fifth-most fifties in the history of the format. The 36-year-old ended up taking a total of 503 innings to reach the mark and will be looking to further increase his tally as the ongoing CPL season progresses.

In the four matches that Hales has played for the Trinbago Knight Riders so far in CPL 2025, he has scored 117 runs. The half-century in the clash against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons was the English batter's first fifty of the ongoing season and he will be looking to maintain this form in the upcoming matches as well.

Hales is nothing short of a legend when it comes to T20 cricket. The batter is currently the third-highest run-getter in the history of the format with a total of 13,931 runs under his belt. Moreover, he is just 51 runs behind from surpassing Kieron Pollard's tally and becoming the second-highest run-getter in the shortest format.
