Scotland put in to bat and managed to post a total of 262/9. Finlay McCreath's 81, Mark Watt's with 60, and Safyaan Sharif's 36 helped Scotland reach 262. While McMullen himself was dismissed for 9 runs after batting at the number three position, his contribution to the game was not yet over. Coming out to bowl in the second innings, McMullen took the second new ball and delivered his medium-paced bowling. He made an immediate impact in his second over, dismissing the Dutch skipper Max O'Dowd through a caught and bowled dismissal. He continued his successful spell by taking his second wicket in his fourth over, getting Vikramjit Singh caught.

O'Dowd was McMullen's 50th wicket in ODI matches and with this he positioned himself as the second-fastest player in men's ODI cricket to reach the double of 1,000 runs and 50 wickets, accomplishing this feat in a mere 33 matches. He had previously surpassed the 1,000-run mark in ODIs during a match against the UAE just last month, which was his 30th ODI appearance.

The record for being the fastest to achieve this milestone of 1,000 runs and 50 wickets in men's ODI cricket is held by Ryan ten Doeschate, the former all-rounder from the Netherlands who currently serves as an assistant coach for the Indian team. He accomplished this double in an impressive 28 matches. Interestingly, Oman's Zeeshan Maqsood completes an all-Associate top three in this list, being the only other player to achieve this feat in fewer than 40 matches, taking him just 37 ODIs.

McMullen's achievement also marks him as the second player from Scotland to reach the milestone of scoring 1,000 runs and taking 50 wickets in ODIs. Michael Leask was the first Scottish cricketer to accomplish this, reaching the mark in 2023.
