Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna was the standout performer while Jammu & Kashmir piled on runs in the first innings of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 final. At KSCA Hubli Cricket Ground, his barrage of short balls pushed the batters on the back foot. Auqib Nabi, a pace-bowling all-rounder who is leading wicket-taker in the season, was outfoxed by Krishna on Day 3 of the title clash. He misjudged the length and lost his wicket in a strange fashion.
Nabi had faced two short balls in Krishna's previous over. On the last ball of Krishna's next over, Nabi got the strike. He had braced himself for another short ball. But, Krishna bowled a fuller length delivery. Nabi ducked, had his bat in front. The ball hit the helmet before taking an outside edge off the bat and wicketkeeper Kruthik Krishna took an excellent catch diving to his right.
Nabi didn’t know whether he had hit the ball or not. After having a word with teammate Sahil Lotra, he left the field, dismissed for two runs from nine balls.
Krishna stands out
Krishna completed his fifer, fourth of his red-ball career. He bowled 34.1 overs including seven maidens and conceded 98 runs. Apart from him, Vidyadhar Patil, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Shreyas Gopal, and Shikhar Shetty claimed one wicket each whereas Devdutt Padikkal ran out Yudhvir Singh Charak.
Despite Krishna’s fifer, Jammu & Kashmir posted 584 on the board. Shubbham Pundir scored a century whereas five other batters crossed the fifty-run mark.
Nabi gets the new ball talking
After a weird shot to get out, Nabi continued his good form with the ball. Late into the first session, he dismissed KL Rahul with a peach of a delivery. Early into the second session, he delivered a double blow by dismissing Karun Nair and Smaran Ravichandran for ducks off consecutive deliveries.
Krishna is unlikely to make the Test squad for the Sri Lanka tour due to spin-friendly conditions. Similarly, Nabi may not receive his maiden call-up either. However, when India tour New Zealand for a two-Test series in October-November 2026, Nabi may be on selectors' radar.
Till then, Nabi will have to prove his mettle in white-ball format. He has been picked for a whopping Rs 8.4 crore by Delhi Capitals (DC) where he will be playing alongside Karnataka opener Rahul who he dismissed on Day 3.
