Team India suffered an unceremonious exit from the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia after losing the semi-final game by 10 wickets against eventual champions England. The Men in Blue boasted one of the best squads in the competition but failed to translate talent into performance in an unfamiliar setting. Stylish right-handed batter Shreyas Iyer was named in reserve for India's 2022 T20 World Cup squad and couldn't make the cut for the main squad.

In limited opportunities, Iyer has performed exceedingly well for India across formats and missing out of the World Cup squad came as a big disappointment for the Mumbaikar.

"It was disappointing. It is something that you dream as a kid, to represent your country at the biggest stage. Winning it for the team is also something which gives you the chills," Iyer told Hindustan Times.

The 28-year-old has already played 95 international matches for India and boats a solid record. In seven Tests, Iyer has scored 624 runs at an average of 56.70, including five fifties and one century. In 39 ODIs, the stylish batter has aggregated 1,537 runs at an average of 48, including two centuries and 14 half-centuries. In 49 T20Is, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain has amassed 1,043 runs at a strike rate of 136, including seven half-centuries.

Iyer also touched on how he deals with disappointment in order to achieve his objective in the long run. Speaking more on the World Cup snub, the Mumbaikar affirmed that he didn't let the disappointment affect his mindset.

"But it was not that I was completely demotivated. I didn’t let that get into my mind. I was just doing my things right. I focused on myself. I took a break, went and played domestic cricket. It gave me more time to elevate my skills," said Iyer.
