31-year-old ex-KKR spinner announces retirement from 'BCCI cricket', pens down emotional note

31-year-old former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner, KC Cariappa has announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket. Cariappa wrote an emotional post on social media announcing his retirement.

"From the streets where it all began to stadium lights and wearing the jersey with pride, I lived the dream I once only imagined," Cariappa wrote. "Today, I officially announce my retirement from BCCI cricket. This journey gave me everything. Victories that made me smile, defeats that broke me and lessons that shaped me."

Cariappa thanked Karnataka Cricket Association for helping him evolve and Cricket Association of Mizoram for their support.

"I owe my deepest gratitude to KSCA for building me, guiding me and believing in me when it mattered the most. And to the Cricket Association of Mizoram, thank you for trusting me and supporting me like family," he added.

Cariappa’s IPL journey

Cariappa was picked by KKR for Rs 2.4 crore for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015. On his IPL debut, he dismissed Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) legendary batter AB de Villiers.

KKR released him despite just one chance in the maiden season. In the next season, he was roped in by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). He played nine games for PBKS and claimed seven wickets. In 2019, he returned to KKR but remained wicketless in the only opportunity. Later, he was picked by Rajasthan Royals (RR) but did not get a game for three seasons.

Cariappa’s domestic cricket record

Cariappa made his last appearance in domestic cricket for Mizoram on December 31, 2025 against Manipur in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 clash. The leg-spinner made his List A debut for Karnataka in 2021 and first-class debut in 2024 for Mizoram. From 14 first-class games, he has 75 wickets at an average of 23.20, featuring six five-wicket hauls. From 20 List A games, he has 24 wickets at an average of 31.62. He has played 58 T20s and bagged as many wickets at an average of 24.62. He has been handy with the bat, scoring four fifties in red-ball cricket and two in T20s.
