4 players including Joseph pacers earn recall as West Indies announces squad for Test series vs Sri Lanka

West Indies have made four changes to their Test squad. Their pace attack has been boosted by the return of Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) on June 17 announced their squad for the two-Test series against Sri Lanka at home. Pacers Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph, wicketkeeper-batters Joshua Da Silva and Amir Jangoo have been recalled to the Test squad.

Shamar and Alzarri were not part of the Test series against India and new Zealand due to their respective injuries. Their previous Test appearances in the red-ball format were against Australia at home.

Jangoo made his Test debut against Pakistan in 2025. He scored 30 runs and did not get another game. Da Silva is set to play his first Test after 18 months. From 33 Tests, he has scored 1,238 runs, averaging 24.76, including a century and five fifties.

Players dropped from Test squad and their performances

Wicketkeeper-batter Tevin Imlach, Ojay Shields, Alick Athanaze and Johann Layne, who were part of the Test series against New Zealand, have been dropped the from the squad. Athanaze scored just 56 runs from four innings. Imlach scored 81 runs from six innings. Shields took five wickets, averaging 35.20. Layne remained wicketless on his Test debut against India and bagged just one scalp against the Kiwis.

West Indies’ Test squad vs Afghanistan 

Roston Chase (c), Jomel Warrican (vc), John Campbell, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Joshua Da Silva (wk), Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, Shai Hope, Amir Jangoo, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Anderson Phillip, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales.

The two-Test series will begin on June 25. Both Tests will be played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua.

West Indies in hunt for 1st win

West Indies are currently searching for their first win of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. From eight Tests, they have managed to draw just one against New Zealand and suffered seven defeats. They are currently placed at the bottom of the points table with just four points and a win percentage of 4.17.

Their opponents, Sri Lanka are placed third with a win and a draw each from two Tests against Bangladesh last year. This is their second Test series of the current cycle.
