Abhishek Sharma breaks all-time T20I batter rankings record to extend lead over Phil Salt, Varun Chakravarthy retains top spot after Asia Cup 2025 triumph

India's destructive opener Abhishek Sharma is a record-breaking spree. He broke the five-year-old record for highest rating in ICC T20I batter rankings.

India's menacing opener Abhishek Sharma has extended his lead over other players as he retained the top spot in ICC T20I batter rankings. in doing so, Abhishek broke the all-time ICC rankings record for highest-ever rating in the format. Abhishek has 931 rating points, 12 more than former England opener Dawid Malan which he achieved in 2020. For India, only two batters -- Suryakumar Yadav (912) and Virat Kohli (909) -- have had more than 900 rating points.

Abhishek was rewarded for his 'Player of the tournament' performance in the T20 Asia Cup 2025, scoring 314 runs from seven innings at an average of 44.86 and strike rate of 200, including three centuries.

The next batter on the list England opener Phil Salt, followed by Tilak Varma at three. Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka moved up two spots to take fifth place. Suryakumar had a lacklustre season and he slipped two places to eighth position. Australia's Travis Head and New Zealand's Tim Seifert are in sixth and seventh positions. Sri Lanka's Kusal Perera entered the top 10 rankings as well, slotted at no.9.

Chakravarthy continues his reign, Abrar slips

Similarly, Varun Chakravarthy held the top spot in the T20I bowler rankings. He has 803 rating points, 94 more than second-placed bowler, New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy. Australia leg-spinner Zampa moved up two places to third spot as West Indies' Akeal Hosein slipped to fourth spot. 

As Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed slipped places to no.6, Adil Rashid moved to fifth spot. Australia pacer Nathan Ellis moved to 10th spot as Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman slipped two places. India's left-arm chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav jumped nine places to 12th after taking 17 wickets in the Asia Cup 2025. 

Ayub becomes top all-rounder despite poor batting form

Strangely, Pakistan's Saim Ayub claimed the top spot in ICC T20I all-rounder rankings. While Ayub was impressive with the ball, he had a horrible tournament as a bowler. Ayub jumped four spots, surpassed India's Hardik Pandya and Afghanistan's Mohammad Nabi. Also, Axar Patel entered the top 10.
