Shamar Joseph broke Australia's back on Day 1 of third Test

Australia recorded another low after being bowled out for 225

West Indies' Shamar Joseph's searing spell disrupted Australia's batting lineup on Day 1 of the third Test at Sabina Park in Kingston. West Indies rode on Shamar Joseph's fiery four-fer to fold Australia for just 225 runs which saw visitors' recording one of their lowest Test innings totals in the Caribbean since the beginning of the 21st century. In response, the West Indies began cautiously, reaching 16 runs for the loss of one wicket by the close of play, still trailing Australia by 209 runs.

The Australian innings was devoid of any substantial partnerships, with several batsmen failing to convert promising starts into big scores. While Steve Smith contributed a handy 48 runs and Cameron Green added 46, no other batsman was able to build a lasting partnership. Consequently, the visitors were bowled out within 71 overs.

Australia's total of 225 runs at Sabina Park now stands among their five lowest innings totals in Test matches played in the West Indies since the year 2000.

165 all out at Kingston (2008)
180 all out at Bridgetown (2025)
225 all out at Kingston (2025) (This Test)*
240 all out at St John’s (2003)
243 all out at St George’s (2025)

Earlier in this series, Australia's batting had shown similar vulnerabilities, being bowled out for 180 in the first Test at Bridgetown and for 243 in the second Test at St George’s. This indicates a concerning trend of batting collapses for the Australian team on Caribbean soil during this tour.

On Day 1 at Kingston, West Indies bowler Shamar Joseph broke Australia batters' backs with an impactful spell of 4/33. He was well supported by Jayden Seales, who took three wickets for 59 runs, and Justin Greaves, who also contributed with three wickets for 56 runs. Together, they dismantled the Australian batting lineup with regular breakthroughs. After reaching a relatively stable position of 129 runs for the loss of three wickets, the visitors lost their remaining seven wickets for the addition of only 96 runs.

In response to Australia's total, the West Indies made a cautious start to their innings, ending the day at 16 runs for the loss of one wicket in 9 overs. Mitchell Starc provided an early breakthrough for Australia by dismissing Kevlon Anderson for 3 runs. Brandon King, who is not out on 8, and captain Roston Chase, not out on 3, will resume batting on Day 2, aiming to build a more substantial partnership after another promising day for the home team.
