In a low-scoring The Men’s Hundred 2025 opener, a fox played showstopper as it entered the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground on August 5. The fox did a lap around the ground as players or the ground staff refrained from stopping it. The crowd cheered as the fox searched for a place to get out of the ground. After almost a minute, it stepped out of the boundary and behind the advertising boards.

The defending champions Oval Invincibles led by Sam Billings overpowered Kane Williamson's London Spirit. Williamson won the toss and opted to bat first. Jordan Clark dismissed openers Keaton Jennings and David Warner for single-digit scores with the new ball. Skipper Williamson fell cheaply to left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff.
Then Rashid Khan and Sam Curran made an impact. Only three London Spirit batters could score in double digits. London Spirit were bowled out for 80 in 94 balls. Rashid and Curran claimed three wickets each.
Easy run chase for defending champions
In the run chase of 81, Oval Invincibles got off to a steady start. After making his Test comeback, left-arm spinner Liam Dawson got rid of both openers. Tawanda Muyeye was knocked over for 18 from 20 balls. Then, he dismissed Jacks for a run-a-ball 24. Daniel Worrall ended Jordan Cox's stay at the crease whereas Curran got bowled by Ashton Turner. But these turned out to the consolation wickets. Skipper Billings and Ferreira finished the run chase with 31 balls to spare. Oval Invincibles registered a dominating six-wicket win in the season opener.
Billings surprised by Spirit’s approach
After the match, Billings revealed that he was taken aback by London Spirit’s approach after they lost early wickets.
“It was tricky (the pitch). I was surprised that they didn't try to get to 130 after losing a couple of wickets. Was surprised how hard they kept on coming. Sometimes you need some batsmanship. It's about setting up a platform and giving yourself a chance. Knew it wasn't going to be a wicket like the Oval. For us it's about the attitude and energy,” he said in the post-match presentation.
