Under Babar's captaincy, the Pakistan cricket team lost to the non-Test playing nation USA in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. After that Shan Masood-led Pakistan lost the two Test match series against Bangladesh where Babar Azam failed to score runs he just made 64 runs in four innings against Bangladesh. However, Babar Azam's bat roared after a long time and he has indicated a return to form with a blazing innings of 76 runs in the ongoing Champions ODI Cup in Pakistan's domestic cricket.

Babar Azam is currently representing Stallions in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2024. Babar scored 74 runs in the second match of the tournament against the Lions at Faisalabad ground. Stallions had lost two wickets at a score of 74 runs at one time. Then Babar Azam, batting at number three, handled the innings with Tayyab Tahir. There was a partnership of 114 runs for the third wicket between Babar and Tayyab and Babar Azam became the victim of Shaheen Afridi in the 35th over of the innings. However, by then Babar had played a strong innings of 76 runs with nine fours in 79 balls.

After Babar Azam got out, Tayyab Tahir could not last long and was dismissed after scoring 74 runs in 72 balls including seven fours and two sixes. After this, captain Mohammad Haris, who played at number five, played an innings of 55 runs in 36 balls with four fours and four sixes in a stormy manner. With this, the Stallions crossed the 300 mark and made a huge total of 336 runs for 5 wickets in 50 overs. While Shaheen Shah Afridi and Aamir Jamal took the maximum two wickets each for the Lions.
