Jahanara Alam, a fast bowler for Bangladesh, has taken a two-month hiatus for mental health. According to Habibul Bashar, the in-charge of the BCB women's wing, Jahanara discussed excluding her from the central contract if necessary. Bangladesh will play three ODIs and as many T20Is during their historic tour to the West Indies, but the 31-year-old bowler will not be a part of it.
"She had given us a letter stating that she was not mentally ready to play and took a break from cricket for two months. She even said that if necessary, she should not be kept in the contract,” Bashar told Cricbuzz.
"We need to respect that because if someone feels that she is not mentally ready and wants to take a break for some days, we need to accept that. There is no specific time frame for which she is out. Whenever she feels well, she will let us know," Bashar added.
Jahanara made a comeback to the national squad for the Women's T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, although she was unable to participate in any games. Although she just participated in the T20 Internationals, the seamer was included in Bangladesh's team for the home series against Ireland. Jahanara has claimed 108 wickets in 52 ODIs and 83 T20Is, including four five-wicket hauls.
