Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has made a change to their plans for their upcoming tour of Pakistan as they have decided to scrap the ODIs from the schedule and will now only be playing T20Is against the Men in Green. The main reason behind this decision is that both Bangladesh and Pakistan are focusing on their preparations for the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup.
India is set to host the Asia Cup in 2025, and the next ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka in 2026.
Speaking of the Asia Cup, which is tentatively planned for September in India, it will also be played in the T20 format this year as teams gear up for the World Cup.
Originally, Bangladesh was slated to tour Pakistan in May for a series of three ODIs and three T20Is as part of the Future Tours Programme (FTP). However, both cricket boards have now agreed to play a longer, five-match T20I series instead, specifically with an eye on getting ready for the major global tournament.
Adding to that, Pakistan are also on the cards to play a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in July. This decision actually came about during the recently finished Champions Trophy, where the presidents of the two cricket boards got together to discuss their future plans and decided to schedule this series, even though it wasn't originally part of the Future Tours Programe.
"We have decided to play T20Is instead of ODIs in the upcoming tour of Pakistan as we are planning to start our preparation for the next T20 World Cup as well as Asia Cup through that series When Pakistan will travel to Bangladesh they are scheduled to play three T20Is," a BCB official confirmed Cricbuzz.
The T20I series between Bangladesh and Pakistan is scheduled to take place in Dhaka on July 20, 22, and 24 respectively. This series is timed just before the Pakistan team heads off for their tour of the West Indies. Right now, the Men in Green are in the middle of an action-packed series against New Zealand, which includes five T20Is and three ODIs. Once they wrap up their matches against the Kiwis, they will shift their focus to the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL), which is set to run from April 11 to May 18.
