India veteran batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have already retired from Tests and T20Is, are making headlines after the team's 2-0 Test series defeat against South Africa. There are rumours that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is approaching the former Test great Virat Kohli to reverse his decision and make a return in the longest format of the game.
India's Test performance in the last 12 months
The Indian Test team is currently on a downward spiral as they have suffered two home series whitewashes in the last 12 months. Notably, the Indian Test team is currently on a transition with veteran cricketers Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin retiring from the whites.
Will RoKo make Test comeback?
However, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, in an interview with Aaj Tak, confirmed that the BCCI has no intent to make any request to Virat Kohli regarding the reversal of his retirement. He clarified that no discussion has been initiated over this proposal.
“What’s being said about Virat Kohli is just a rumour. There has been no conversation with Kohli about this. Do not give weight to rumours. Nothing of that sort has happened,” Devajit Saikia told AajTak on Sunday, November 30.
Virat Kohli's Test career
Kohli announced his Test retirement after representing India for 14 years on May 12, 2025. The batting great has played 123 matches where he scored 9,230 runs at a batting average of 46.85, including 30 centuries. He is one of the best captains to lead India in whites, as Team India defeated Australia on their home turf for the first time under his captaincy.
India's upcoming Test assignment
Team India will now face Afghanistan for the one-off Test match, which will take place next year. Team India are currently on number five in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table after losing two matches against South Africa. Australia are the table toppers with four wins in four matches so far.
