IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, who is also on the WPL committee, stated that although the Women's Premier League has "developed fantastically" over the past three years, there are currently no intentions to expand the league's current five clubs. Roger Binny, president of the BCCI, is in charge of the WPL committee. After three seasons, the Board intended to expand the number of clubs, but it now wants to consolidate.

"To further strengthen this tournament for the time being, we want to consolidate before we take a call on further addition of any team. There are no immediate plans (to add teams)," Dhumal told PTI.

Nevertheless, Dhumal is happy with the tournament's growth.

"So, within three editions, WPL has grown phenomenally in terms of traction, for in-stadium attendance. All the broadcast numbers are very, very encouraging. And it has given new impetus to women's cricket worldwide. So, we are hoping this continues to grow. And this augurs very well for not only the tournament, but women's cricket in general," he added.

Unlike the Indian Premier League, the WPL has not yet been played in a home-and-away format. The most recent tournament, which concluded on March 15, was hosted by the BCCI in collaboration with Mumbai and Bengaluru and smaller cities like Baroda and Lucknow. The Mumbai Indians defeated the Delhi Capitals in the final to win their second championship in three years.

The sale of five teams representing Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat brought in 4670 crore for the BCCI. Prior to a ball being bowled, it was the second-largest women's league in the world after the media rights were sold for 951 crore. This season, a respectable number of people attended most of the games. However, the league's primary objective is to discover more talent and advance women's cricket in India. There is a lot of room for improvement in that area for the competitors.
