South African batter Donavon Ferreira stole the show in Harare Hurricanes’ clash against Cape Town Samp Army in the ongoing Zim Afro T10 2023. Amidst a batting collapse, Ferreira single-handedly helped Hurricanes post a fighting total of 115/6 on board while six batters registered single-digit scores. Ferreira smashed six fours and eight sixes in his unbeaten 33-ball 87 to stun Samp Army's bowlers who were on point for nearly half of the encounter.

Horrrendous start

Parthiv Patel won the toss and opted to field first. Sheldon Cottrell was sensational in the first over as Robin Uthappa and Regis Chakabva got out bowled without troubling the scorers. In-form Evin Lewis became Cottrell's third victim in his next over. Ferreira hit a few boundaries but barely had any support from the other end. Eoin Morgan getting out to Richard Ngarava added more pressure. After five overs, Hurricanes had 33/4 on the board.

Ferreira lights up Harare

Ferreira hit a couple of sixes over long-on in the seventh over but Ngarava managed to dismiss Mohammad Nabi. In the next over, Australian spinner Peter Hatzoglou got the wicket of Smit Patel. In the penultimate over, Ferreria hit a hat-trick of fours to get to his half-century. Luke Jongwe also hit a six to make it a big over. In the final over, Ferreira went berserk. Afghan pacer Karim Janat was on the receiving end as he smashed him for five consecutive sixes. Ferreira's sensational 87-run knock helped Hurricanes post 115/6.

Gurbaz leads the way

In reply, Afghan batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz led Samp Army's chance. He did not get much help from Tadiwanashe Marumani and Bhanuka Rajapaksa. Gurbaz got to his half-century from 24 balls in the eighth over. He hit Patel for two sixes in the over but lost his wicket when Samp Army needed 26 more runs to win from 13 balls.

Sreesanth’s last over heroics

Janat hit a couple of sixes in an attempt to redeem himself. Nabi got the wicket of Rajapaksa off the last ball of penultimate over. But S Sreesanth saved the day as he conceded a solitary boundary and took the wicket of Janat followed by run out of Sean Williams. The match ended in a tie as Sreesanth conceded just seven runs in the final over of a T10 game.

Low-scoring super over

Nandre Burger was given the ball against Samp Army. In the super over, he got the wicket of Gurbaz and conceded just seven runs. Ferreira and Nabi came out to bat for Hurricanes. No boundaries were scored by sloppy fielding led to Hurricanes winning the game in super over with one ball to spare.

No game time in IPL

Interestingly, Ferreira who was picked for Rs 50 lakh by Rajasthan Royals after a mini-bidding war with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was not picked for a single game as they had a set team combination.
