Story Highlights:

22-year-old Sonam Yeshey bagged 8 wickets for just 7 runs.

Myanmar were bowled out for 45 in the 10th over.

Bhutan left-arm spinner Sonam Yeshey etched his name in T20I record books by becoming the first bowler to register an eight-wicket haul in a T20I. Against Myanmar in Gelephu, Yeshey picked up eight wickets for just seven runs, handing his team a dominating 82-run win in a low-scoring affair.

Earlier, only two bowlers had taken a seven-fer in T20Is. Overall (T20Is, domestic T20s and franchise T20 cricket), two other bowlers had a seven-fer to their name as well.

Here is a list of bowlers with seven wickets in a T20 game -

Malaysia's Syazrul Idrus - 7/8 against China in 2023
Leicestershire's Colin Ackermann - 7/18 against Birmingham Bears in 2019
Dhaka Capital's Taskin Ahmed - 7/19 against Durbar Rajshahi in 2025
Bahrain's Ali Dawood - 7/19 against Bhutan in 2025.

Then, Anand Mongar joined the party with Nyein Cham Soe's wicket in the eighth over. Yeshey continued to strike and dismissed Kaung Htet Kyaw and Zwe Htet Paing in his last over. In his quota of four overs, he conceded just seven runs and bowled a maiden as well. Mongar wrapped the proceedings by knocking over wicketkeeper-batter Kaung Ko Ko. Myanmar were bowled out for 45 in 9.2 overs as Bhutan registered a big win by 82 runs.

Yeshey’s T20I career

Yeshey made his T20I debut in July 2022. From 34 T20Is, he has taken 37 wickets at an average of 1.37. Before the record-breaking eight-wicket haul, he had taken a four-fer earlier this month against Bahrain.
