The West Indies cricket team is set to embark on a challenging Test series in Australia with a notably inexperienced squad, following the withdrawal of key players such as Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers. This situation has led to the inclusion of seven uncapped players in the 15-member team, highlighting a period of transition and opportunity for new talent.

The team will be captained by Kraigg Braithwaite, with Alzarri Joseph appointed as his deputy for the two-match series starting January 17 in Adelaide. This leadership duo faces the task of guiding a largely untested squad in the demanding conditions of Australian cricket.
Among the fresh faces in the squad are Zachary McCaskie and wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach, promising talents who will look to make their mark on the international stage. The all-rounder roles will be filled by Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, and Kevin Sinclair, each bringing their unique skills to the team. The pace attack will be bolstered by newcomers Akeem Jordan and Shamar Joseph, adding youthful energy to the bowling lineup.
Lead selector Desmond Haynes acknowledged the impact of missing some of the team's established players but expressed confidence in the abilities of the chosen squad. He believes that, despite their relative inexperience, these players possess the talent necessary to compete effectively in Australian conditions.
"The squad has been affected by the unavailability of some key players. However, we have had a very strong red-ball program being run over the past year, which has unearthed significant talent throughout the region," said Haynes.
"The selected players have passed each test given to them and must now be given the opportunity to showcase their skills in the Test arena.
"Australia away is always a challenge, but we are confident in our team," he added.
