Shahid Aslam, a former first-class cricket player, has been hired by the Pakistan Cricket Board as batting coach for Pakistan's white-ball team after their batters underperformed in the recently concluded white-ball series against Australia. On the advice of Aaqib Javed, the recently hired interim head coach, Aslam has been added to the backroom staff. For several years, Aslam has served with the Pakistani team in a variety of roles, including assistant manager, fielding coach, and assistant coach. For the past two years, he has been employed as a coach at the High Performance Center in Lahore.
Before joining the national selection committee, former Test captain Mohammad Yousuf was a batting instructor for the national squad. At that point, Yousuf resigned from his position as both batting coach and selector. Before submitting his resignation, he worked at the High-Performance Center. However, the PCB turned down Yousuf's resignation.
Aaqib Javed becomes new interim white-ball coach
Aaqib was appointed by the Pakistan Board on Monday as their temporary head coach till the 2025 Champions Trophy. After red-ball coach Jason Gillespie declined a position as an all-format coach, Javed assumed the position. Gary Kirsten was Pakistan's white-ball coach, however, he recently resigned. Gillespie, a former Australian bowler and red-ball coach for Pakistan, has been appointed as the white-ball coach for the Australia series.
"The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today announced the appointment of Aqib Javed, a former international fast bowler, as the interim head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team until the ICC Champions Trophy 2025," the PCB wrote in a statement on November 18.
Australia and Pakistan recently faced off in six white-ball matches. They suffered a 3-0 series whitewash in the tournament's T20I leg, while winning the ODI series 2-1. The batters struggled, particularly in the T20Is, but the bowlers played brilliantly. Next up for the Men in Green is a six-match white-ball series in Zimbabwe. They will play the Chevrons in three ODIs starting on November 24. The T20I series will start on December 1.
