Bishnoi gang shadow looms large over Cricket Canada as ICC initiates probe

A cricketing documentary has strid a controversy in the world of cricket, highlighting the issues going in Cricket Canada like lack of proper governance, questionable team selections and a big possibility of match-fixing. As per some latest updates, alleged links between the Lawerence Bishnoi's gang and match-fixing have emerged.

Bishnoi gang's angle emerges

According to a latest report by CBC News, threats from the Lawerence Bishnoi gang have influenced the team's decision during the ICC Men's T20 World 2026.

The controversy centres around Canada skipper Dilpreet Bajwa, whose appointment has come under the scanner. The report suggests that the some players were threatened to back his selection, with some reportedly warned of serious consequences if they refused to support certain individuals.

A source named Noah said. "So they straight up said this wording to him, that ‘You must take care of these guys. These guys should not get dropped from the team. If they do, you are in trouble.’ Obviously that was very scary for him,"

ICC launches probe

The recent developments have come under International Cricket Council's (ICC) attention, which has started a special investigation into possible breaches of it's anti-corruption rules.

"We cannot comment on the substance of the allegations at this stage," said ICC interim integrity chief Andrew Ephgrave.

One game that has drawn everyone's attention is Canada's World Cup clash against New Zealand in Chennai, where Dilpreet Bajwa-led side failed to defend 173. In the game, Bajwa bowled a particular over where 15 runs were leaked, consisting of a no-ball and a wide.

Noah further revealed how the Bishnoi gang used to threat individuals to back certain players in the team.

“We know where you live You won’t be able to run away from the Bishnoi Group,” Noah described the threatening messages from the group.

The report further claims that Bishnoi gang's main aspiration make Bajwa the captain of the side and ensure that certain players were not dropped. The circumstance instilled fear in everyone's mind, with some asking for police protection and other stepping down from their respective positions.
